However, it has been reported that it is not appropriate to apply the conventional well-being scale for adolescents and adults to childhood due to an insufficient theoretical understanding of well-being in childhood. Therefore, this report reviews previous research on the possibility of creating and implementing a scale to measure childhood well-being. Further, it attempts to examine whether it is possible for children to understand and self-evaluate their well-being from the perspective of cognitive development, such as social comparison, emotional differentiation and self-evaluation, and past time consciousness. The results suggest that children in the upper grades of elementary school may be able to perceive and rate their sense of well-being through a process similar to that of adults.
