Given its versatility and cost-effectiveness, the FBS alternative “EquaFETAL®” should be available for conventional use. The present study examined the experimental conditions necessary for the sufficient storage of 3T3-L1 lipid droplets and secreted adiponectin using EquaFETAL®. Oil Red O staining showed that EquaFETAL® maintained the ability of 3T3-L1 adipocytes to accumulate lipid droplets. Adiponectin production peaked at days 8 to 10 of the differentiation periods and tended to decrease until day 14. These findings are considered significant as few reports have examined the influence of EquaFETAL® on 3T3-L1 culture. However, adiponectin secretion-inducing factor had little effect on 3T3-L1 culture in the present study.
